Current Research Activities Relating to Scleroderma:

a. Investigation of antigen-antibody profiles in the sera from scleroderma patients.
b. Cell and molecular biology of autoantigens in scleroderma with particular interest in endosomes, the Golgi complex, the nucleolus, mitotic spindle and chromatin antigens.
c. Characterization and purification of intracellular antigens reactive with antibodies in systemic sclerosis and other rheumatic diseases. This includes the use of molecular cloning and hybridoma antibodies.
d. Study of the pathogenic role of autoantibodies in scleroderma.
e. Relationships of exposure to mercury, and other environmental toxins to scleroderma.
f. Mapping epitopes and determinants on autoantigens relevant to scleroderma.
g. Relationship of cancer to autoimmunity and scleroderma.
h. Development and assessment of ew technologies (array, microfluidics, nanotechnology) in diagnosis of scleroderma.
