The Scleroderma Society of Canada originated in 1999, with the initiative of a few individuals who were part of a local support group in Calgary , Alberta . Regional support groups in other provinces expressed an interest in the concept of a national organization. Through the efforts of the Scleroderma Association of BC and the Calgary group, the structure of the Society was completed and regional groups became part of the national organization.
The Society was officially registered as a charity by the government of Canada in 2000.
